A Skinflint
Long time ago there was such an old man, and no one was ever able to eat the food that he had. One day, he was roasting rice cakes in the fire pit, and a man came to visit him at that time. The old man heard someone coming into his house, so he buried the rice cakes in ashes.
The visitor sat near the fire pit to warm himself because it was cold, and he discovered that there were rice cakes in the fire pit, but the old man didn’t tell him that rice cakes were roasted in the fire pit, therefore, the visitor spread the burning charcoal intentionally and poked the buried cakes with a stick continuously, and the cakes were broken into pieces. Even though the cakes were poked and broken into pieces, the old man didn’t want to tell him that there were rice cakes in the fire pit, even though he felt very upset. The visitor continued to poke, and then got the broken burnt cakes out of the ashes, and he said to the old man: “If you told me there were rice cakes roasted in the fire pit when I came into your house, then two of us could enjoy cakes together, but you see, what a pity now.” From then on, the old man was called a skinflint.
